PYGMY v.2.3
Pygmy 2.3 runs under Windows 95, 98, ME,
NT, 2000, or XP. A resolution of 1024 by 860
and a color monitor are recommended. Lower
resolutions may prevent the program from
displaying correctly.

Pygmy was developed by Dr. Doug Stewart,
from the University of Western Australia.
It analyzes the behavior of single piles under
lateral loading. It uses the subgrade reaction
(p-y) method and allows general forms of
loading to be applied. Some of the program
main features are:
- finite-element-based analysis of pile
bending, including the effect of axial
load
- soil resistance represented by non-
linear p-y springs, defined for all
ranges of soils, from soft clays to
calcareous soils to weak rocks
- automatic generation of p-y curves for
both static and cyclic criteria
- easy input of p multipliers to account
for group effects
- multiple soil layers
- any combination of applied moments,
lateral forces, rotations, lateral
displacements or lateral soil
displacements applicable to any node
- possibility of adjusting fixity of any
node on the pile
- distributions of pile deflection,
rotation, bending moment, shear
force and spring force viewable on the
screen or printed output
